The heart behind Journey Hair Lounge

Hi, I’m Tammy, founder of Journey Hair Lounge in downtown Hagerstown, Maryland. With more than 22 years in the beauty industry, my passion for hair has grown into something much bigger than creating a beautiful cut or color. It’s about connection, confidence, creativity, and helping people feel more like themselves.

My journey has taken me from behind the chair to the world of professional beauty education, where I joined the John Paul Mitchell Systems education team in 2014. As a professional educator, I had the opportunity to travel, collaborate with talented stylists, and share the knowledge and techniques that help our industry grow. That experience shaped the stylist I am today and deepened my belief that great hair begins with understanding, not just technique.

I love the versatility of this craft. From dimensional color and customized color transformations to precision haircuts, short styles, and everything in between, I enjoy creating hair that reflects your personality, complements your lifestyle, and feels like you. My goal is never simply to recreate a picture. It’s to understand what you love, what works for your hair, and how to help you maintain your results long after you leave the salon.

That philosophy is at the heart of Journey Hair Lounge. I wanted to create a space where you can slow down, feel welcome, ask questions, learn something new about your hair, and enjoy a personalized experience without feeling rushed. Education, healthy hair, thoughtful product choices, and genuine connection are all part of the experience.

Outside the salon, I’m happiest spending time with my husband, our boys, family, and friends. We love taking our RV on new adventures, camping, enjoying live music, and finding a little sunshine whenever possible. Those experiences remind me that life is always evolving—and that sometimes the best things happen when we embrace the journey.
